How long has Tao been around? More than a couple generations, at least? The guilds?

Tao Village has been around for around a century and a half or so, so more than a couple generations for most Pokemon - but not even a full generation for others! The Rogues guild has existed for roughly that amount of time.  The Merchants have existed for far longer, but not in the same form as the one PK runs (or Anana) - it was very closed, even moreso than how Anana runs Alomomola.  The Rescuers guild is pretty much an infant compared to the other two, only having existed for a scant amount of time.  I suppose something like 2 years.

June 2012

I don't actually know how long Anime Expo is going on and such, so I'm just wondering. How long (in days) do you think it'll be until the resources and stuff will be available to purchase?

Probably won’t be til near August, since I still have to finish doujin 2

Jun 30, 2012
You keep saying you extended the deadline by three weeks, but it was actually only two. You just had the 3rd week in reserve in the event you really needed it.

Huh, really?  Looks like I messed that up in my memory!  Well then, I suppose we’ll see soon if there’s an extension or not.

TRON-like experience anon means to ask if teams are going to have to go through some sort of into-the-computer experience to deal with corrupted porygons.

Oh, well that seems a bit cliche, doesn’t it?  But no, that wasn’t in the game plan.  There’s something else to be.

Hey PK, even though you're gonna me out of commission for a few days due to Anime Expo, is E6 gonna come out in time?

Probably not :/ Marl got half the story written in time, but there’s still a chunk missing.  And I don’t have cool art to go with it either.  We simply were working nonstop before AX for a week to get everything ready for it (it did not help that we had next to no stock left because we came back from anthrocon), so we’ve had very little time to get E6 ready.  I would like to say this means an extension, but I think Mike would kill me.  Also I already had extended it 3 weeks.  I’ll try to get the rest of the E6 journal typed, and maybe I can borrow Ivee’s computer to do some art on it tomorrow.  I’ll have to ask her.  I really do want to get it out on time, as I loathe being late on this (I don’t want to start trending that), so I’ll see what I can do.

wait.. what is this book everyone is talking about.. is it the doujin or something else? I'm out of the loop

Depends on who’s talking! I’m working on a second doujin, but lately I’ve been making posts about wanting to make a reference/guide book on color, digital painting, resources, etc.

Have you ever thought about continuing with free blogs but then giving premium content in little packages from time to time for those who donate enough money? That way you could still keep a big audience but then offer some special stuff for those that want to pay.

I’ll still continue my free blogs!  There’s no reason not to do that; I make enough art to do it.  But as I’ve said, still figuring out plans for the next year, and need to figure out the best way for me and everyone else to do this stuff.

I remember reading somewhere that Psychic powers don't work in the King's Rock Casino. Could you explain that point in depth? Does Hugh and the other workers have any means to life the ban in case of an emergency?

There are no means to lift the ban, unfortunately.  The whole place is lined with crushed Dusk Stone (Dark Stone in Japanese - the inspiration for the idea), which inhibits the powers severely of a Psychic-Pokemon.  I suppose you could say it fogs up their mind too much; I’m sure it has the same effect on other types of Pokemon too, which probably messes with their judgment in spending money too.  Two birds with one stone!

Will there be a TRON-like experience should we end up having to deal with the corrupted porygons?

I’ve never watched tron, so I do not know what that implies!

I don't like the idea of a pay blog because in a form like that, it implies a subscription based model which obligates you to make regular submissions that will definitely effect your output in the long run. I've seen artists effectively drop off of the face of the "non-premium" world because of that. Selling packages (monthly magazine?) seems to be the better option, you can just go and stop doing that for a while if the circumstances call for it without subscribers in your neck.

Well, we’ll see. I’m still figuring out my plans for the year.

Like others, I would really be interested in being able to buy "packs" of resources. One thing I think would be REALLY helpful is if you could record your process like you do when you stream, except in much better quality and possibly with voice- or text-over advice/explanations. I love watching your streams but often the video quality is too poor to make out more than the basics of what you're doing. I think it would be easier for you to explain things too, compared to just screenshots.

Yeah, that’s a thing I really want to do, the recording bit.  And I hate that I can never zoom into areas in HQ and show things, so I always do it the same way in LS where I just don’t zoom and often don’t zoom on the canvas itself as well.  But yeah, screenshots for explanations are fine and all, but nothing is quite better than voice/textover on a recording.

How much do you think a monthly subscription would cost for a pay blog? $10, $15, $30+? I think it would make sense to charge less for the pay blog than for individual packs of resources (when the resource prices are totaled up, I mean), so that people who choose to be continuously subscribed feel like they're getting just as good a deal as people who pick and choose. That's how magazine subscriptions work, at least.

Pretty much I don’t have any idea of pricing yet - but yeah I was going to follow the standard of the subscriptions being cheaper than the totaled resource packs.  If I do it like that, in any case.

What do you classify as dumb? I was going to ask another question but then I got scared when I read that you wouldn't answer dumb questions...

If someone’s working really hard to try and get an angry response from me, then it’s probably dumb.  Similarly if they’re trying to start a fight, and aren’t reading my comments, then it’s also dumb.  If you’re asking a legitimate question then I’ll probably answer it.

I DO like the idea of a pay blog, but rather than a subscription, I would rather you price each item. The reason? Some people may only want to view certain things, and also I don't want it to be like... "I'm going to this convention/marking PMDE/doing commissions this month, so don't expect any activity from me this month despite you having to pay anyway!" Plus it also stops people buying a subscription right at the end and getting everything in a huge lump despite only paying once.

Well, even if I am busy, there’s a thing where updates can be staggered - but I understand, regardless.  I’m still thinking on it more.

Jun 28, 2012
wait, so you're making a blog that we have to pay to follow? what kind of art will you be posting on there, just so we know?

I’ve already posted about this many times!  There are a few ideas going around for it right now.

I got the book! after like a whole month! it was worth it I dont care if it was short it was amazing :D!

I’m hoping the next book will feel a lot longer; it’s going to be 70 pages instead of 44, with more panels in general (hopefully doesn’t feel crowded though!)

A porn blog seems kinda tough to 'charge' for to actually gain a profit for the work needed to put in one (you would need to provide a lot of content). Since you want to sell texture/brush packs, why not just group a series of sketches with a unifying theme of some such, and sell that as a pack for a few bucks? I'd shell out for those.

That’s a pretty good idea as well.

Jun 28, 2012
Definitely liking that resource pack idea. They going to be split up by style or something? (so one for those who prefer to lineart+colour or one for those who'd rather paint?) Either way, I'm gonna need more monies...

Yeah, pretty much I’m thinking so.  Someone suggested that there be a system where people can select 3-4 different packs for a flat price (or even just purchase one if they really want) and I think that’s a neat idea.
